Do you know about the magnificent land areas that our country has placed special protection on purely for the enjoyment of its people? There are 395 areas (58 of those are National Parks) that have four special characteristics about them: (1) they are an outstanding example of a particular type of resource; they possess exceptional value or quality in illustrating or interpreting the natural or cultural themes of our Nation's heritage; (3) they offer superlative opportunities for recreation, for public use and enjoyment, or for scientific study; and (4) they retain a high degree of integrity as a true, accurate, and relatively unspoiled example of the resource.
If you have not been to a National Park System (NPS), you are truly missing out. Most times I feel like I am in a different land, undisturbed by other visitors, simply enjoying what God has created in His glory. I feel most at peace when I step foot in a NPS. And, as you know, my husband and I challenged ourselves this past summer to visit quite a few quite a few National Parks. In July, I was able to revisit some of my favorite National Parks with very close girl friends. I feel blessed that I have been able to experience the beauty of these unique environments and I hope to continue to the tradition throughout my entire life, hopefully visiting international NPs as well.
I thought I would make a list (you know how I love them!) that I can refer back to and scratch off the areas in the US that I have visited. Please note, I am going to include National Parks (did you know that National Monuments, Preserves, and Forests are also managed by the National Park Service?) only. You should consider some of these parks for your next vacation!

You guys haven't been to the Everglades yet? How is that even possible?
Also - you should watch the Ken Burns National Park Documentary! So good!
Jonathan has; I haven't. (Pathetic, I know!!) We figure there will be time for the FL NPs later... Thanks for the recommendation!
I'm super jealous of your upcoming "tentative 2012" escapades...details please...Redwoods are one of my "need to see" places.
